Halfway House - The Dwelling
Our Vision
The Dwelling is a residential facility designed to help individuals transition from Primary Rehabilitation into Independent living. Our vision is to assist individuals in early recovery to re-enter society, while still accountable and in a recovery-based environment.
One of the most difficult things about leaving rehabilitation is going straight back into the same environment that played a role in the individuals substance use where triggers, boredom and a lack of structure can lead to relapse.
The Dwelling is drug and alcohol-free environment that allows individuals to refrain from substance use, while focusing on entering a workplace and learning to live independently.
The Purpose Of The Dwelling
Once Individuals have completed a Primary Treatment Program, the real challenge is going back into the world, clean and sober. There are many different things individuals need to learn to help them fight the triggers that threaten their recovery, which is where a halfway house is beneficial.
The primary goal of a halfway house is to transition recovering addicts from a life of substance abuse to living as a responsible member of society. Unfortunately, for many people transitioning into society means they may not have employment or a place to stay; a halfway house provides these residents with the support they need, until they are fully capable of living independently. The Dwelling has rules and routines in place. We provide a range of support including therapy, counselling, job training, life skills and other strategies to help individuals function in society. So, our primary purpose is to be a bridge between the treatment centre and the outside world.
While living in the halfway house, individuals will receive support from both their peers and staff in a drug and alcohol-free environment. The goal is to encourage residents to learn life skills that will allow them to be productive individuals. The interactions between individuals in the halfway house allow them to learn how to develop social relationships that don’t involve substance use.
All life skills and techniques individuals need to survive and live a sober life in society will be taught before they move from the halfway house. This form of transitional living is critical because, unfortunately, when recovered addicts go back to their old home and neighbourhood, they frequently relapse.
