Life After Recovery – Coming Back Into The Fold

Breaking away from addiction, especially with a strong support structure, the kind offered in a recovery centre is possible however, one of the biggest fears of ridding your life of its toxic elements is tackling what comes after.

For many on the road to recovery, the reality is that major aspects of their lives need to transform if they are to win their battles with addiction. Going back to a familiar and toxic environment after completing a recovery programme can have a devastating effect in undoing all the work and progress achieved during the programme; and for many, it is difficult to see what other options they may have.

If you or a loved-one struggles with addiction and faces the fear of what life could be like after a drastic change, or even how to make those changes, Zebulun is here to give you some clarity.

Our lifestyle and development centre, Zebulun, has found ways of helping those in recovery to get the opportunities they need to make these changes, and here’s how.

Value, Responsibility & Self Reliance

One of the biggest challenges faced by those in recovery is that, by the time addiction takes control of their lives, their sense of value, and therefore responsibility and worth, suffer negatively.

This feeling could be the result of letting loved ones and themselves down, it could be from social or family ostracization or a range and sequence of events and disappointments that have left that person feeling inadequate, frustrated and therefore more prone to letting their addiction defeat them.

Our lifestyle and development centre tackles the root causes of these problems, breaks the cycle of self-fulfilling prophecies and starts, by reminding those in recovery of their worth, both to themselves and to their communities.

A Sense of Community

Various studies into addiction have highlighted the important role that community plays in battling it. A support structure and being a part of something bigger than yourself has a lot to do with finding self-worth and a sense of responsibility needed to reach recovery.

Here at Zebulun, community is at the heart of everything we do. Our residents work, learn and council together. Everyone at Zebulun are in similar boats, and they all need to use the same tools to keep it floating.

This instils, in our residents, a sense of community that they carry with them into a successful future, that makes the road to recovery a sustainable one.

A Sustainable Future

For many of those in recovery, the thought of what their professional options could be once they have completed a recovery programme, may often cause some anxiety. Time spent battling addiction can lead to a lack of skills and experience in the workplace. Something that, making it difficult to build a livelihood, tends to result in cyclic abuse of substances, where addiction is present.

At our lifestyle and development centre, we help our residents build critical skills that will give them options to achieve success in their professional and personal lives, once their journey to recovery is complete.

We do this by providing courses to our residents which include but are not limited to those offered by major colleges such as the Trifocus Fitness Academy, FreeCodeCamp, the International Hotel School and Agricolleges International.
